Canine Oral Hygiene

You can help with the oral hygiene of your dog easily.  Feeding the dog dry food helps to keep your dog’s teeth clean during the chewing process.  The kibble will help to clean the plaque buildup on the teeth.  You need to add to this by brushing your dog’s teeth at least once a week.

It’s not unusual for your cat to get hairballs. It’s disgusting to find these hairballs behind the couch or under the bed. It’s sad to see your cat choking on one of these hairballs.
Spring time seems to be one of the worse shedding times for a cat. It’s important that you invest in a good brush and develop good grooming habits to help your cat to avoid choking on hairballs. When brushing your cat make sure to brush down to the roots and even touch the skin. You want to make sure you are brushing with and against the grain of the hair. Make sure to get the tail also. Next you want to lay your cat on it’s back, hold up his front legs and stretch him out. Brush his legs, stomach and neck area. Your cat might not like this when you first start brushing him, but he will grow to love it. They don’t realize it at first, but it does help them feel better.

I thought to myself; why not make a natural shampoo for my dogs, one that didn’t contain harmful chemicals they could possibly have reactions to. It would be cheaper, gentle for them and a more natural option.

Common Types Of Dog Allergies

It is not uncommon for dogs to have allergies just like humans.  Their immune systems can overreact to certain substances just like ours can.  When the allergens enter their body they start to produce the antibodies which attach themselves to the immune cells in their skin and body tissues.  The allergens penetrating these tissues are what cause the powerful chemicals to be released into the surrounding tissues.  It’s these chemicals, histamines that cause the itching and inflammation.

Many dogs can be affected by one or more allergies.  The four ordinary ones are inhalant allergies, flea allergies, skin (contact) allergies, and food allergies.  Most of the allergens are found mainly in the skin scales and saliva of dogs.  Such allergens as tree, grass, weed pollens, molds, house dust, dust mites, animal and human dander, feathers, fleas, bacteria, chemicals and ordinary food can bother your dog.
